This appeared to be a very strange tutorial (warning: it involves sticky tape on the face) but it got my previously unsteady hands to do a pretty decent cat eye, and now I am obsessed. And for those interested, I picked up this to do it with, which is incredibly easy to use. Aaand now you will never see my eyes done any other way. Hope that's cool.

OH HEY YOU GUYS. Remember this lil' thing? I had to take a sizeable break while my life was swallowed by my final year of uni - but with that all set and done it's time to bring it back. Huzzahs all around!

SO yesterday afternoon was spent with delightful blogger babe Tara at the Beaufort St Festival where our eyes feasted on rack after rack of overwhelmingly quality vintage. Pretty dresses were bought, burgers were eaten, local culture was consumed and a rad time was had by all.

So! Yesterday afternoon was spent at a picnic in Kings Park for Perth fashion bloggers organised by the wonderful Jessie of The Velvet Bow and Jacqui of Don't You Know April Rose. And it was pretty damn delightful. Everyone was beyond lovely, and it was great be able to associate faces with blogs, as well as meet a bunch of new bloggers. And just to be able to talk about fashion and blogging with so many passionate people was fantastic; it's not something I get to do very often. I can't wait for the next event, and to see everyone again.

Great blogger I am though, I completely forgot to get a photo of my outfit, so... if any decent outfit-y photos of me turn up I shall be borrowing them.

Finding old treasures that I'd completely forgotten about. Like all this rad jewellery that back in the 90s when my age was a single digit I couldn't keep my hands off of.

Last day of 2010! And it was a good 'un. I went into town, relaxed in one of my favourite spots with my notebook, came home and discovered my mum's old typewriter from the 70s and made heart-shaped chocolate cakes. Excellence.

So these shorts again. I can't stop wearing them. They're just too perfect. And yes! My hair is red now. It has been for a few weeks, but I don't think it was totally noticeable in my last outfit post. I'm a little bit in love with it.

Today was equally relaxing - sitting back with my newly acquired Community dvd (after watching the Doctor Who christmas special o' course), a ridiculous amount of chocolate and these boss shorts. I kind of feel like I'm channeling Sloane Peterson? A 39˚C version, anyway.

Hulloo! Another fabulous launch party was attended on saturday - this time it was Atmosphere, an exhibition featuring Fremantle-based designers' work as both fashion and art. A runway show that weaves through the crowd around installations made by the designers? Too cool. (And definitely not like anything I've had the chance to photograph before. I can't put into words how much I'm loving the experience that the Fashion Festival has been.)

Atmosphere features the work of Ashe, Batchelor, Chinky Wooster, Cocoon Textiles, Kartique, Leah Tarlo, Loop, Love in Tokyo, Megan Salmon, She Seldom Blushes and Totomoto. It's at Victoria Hall on High St in Fremantle and runs until wednesday, open 11 am to 4 pm. Definitely do not miss out! Yes, THAT IS A COMMAND. (More info here.)

Popsicle!

The lovely people behind On William launched their pop-up shop Popsicle! on wednesday with a party that was pretty freaking fun. Drinks, music, origami boats, nautically-dressed waiters and too many cool people for words. Beyond Garment

OH HEY YOU GUYS. So um, not going to lie, things have been increasingly heading towards the awesome for lil' ol' hug-sized. Perth Fashion Festival is happening right now and I've been incredibly lucky to get media accreditation for a couple events.

Last saturday afternoon was spent at the Beyond Garment Seminar at the Maritime Museum in Fremantle. And it was really, really interesting. All about the interconnecting relationship of fashion and art, what separates and defines them, as well as the business side of designing independently. Gotta be honest, kiiiind of made me want to go study fashion at uni. Or start a business of some sort. (Probably should stick to blogging, yeah...)

If there's one thing that stuck with me, though, it's the fact that local designers work SO hard and yet often get little support. Be this because they have a lack of funds or marketing strategy, can't compete with the commercial market or because, well, this is Perth. (Designing in the most isolated city in the world can't be an easy feat.)

So I've decided I'm going to feature a lot more independent designers, local and international. And what better way to start than with the Perth Fashion Festival? You are correct, there is no better way. Yay!

About 30 seconds into taking these photos it started raining. And then it didn't stop for oh, say... all day. And all evening. And probably all night. Um. So much for that whole 'omg almost summer!' thing I was going on about. Not that I mind, of course, winter is lovely. Though I am a liiiiitle disappointed I couldn't get away with no tights and rolled-up sleeves when I went out.

I love this blazer. It's one of those items of clothing that I feel is just way too cool for me. That and the hat; I definitely need to wear them more often.

A couple of new tops that have recently entered my life! The first one from the always stunning Twitch Vintageand the second from a friend of mine at the garage sale that was a fewweeks ago. Can you tell I have a thing for big puffy everything? Alsothe first top required me learning how to tie a bow tie (not a good bowtie... but a bow tie nonetheless) and I am really really really excitedabout this new semi-skill. Expect to be seeing a lot of bow ties fromnow on.

Also LOOK HOW SUNNY IT LOOKS. Winter's almost over and it'sgetting to that stage where there's a couple of hours each day whereit's actually kind of almost warm. You'd better believe I'm takingadvantage of it.

(Two posts in a row! Wow!) Another WAY AWESOME couple of events that took place last week - Laura Marling and Florence and the Machine! What a really, really great couple of days. Laura Marling was just all lovely and quaint and folk-y and full of awkward-but-charming banter (the perfect way to spend a sunday night) and Florence was... well, Florence. Pretty much perfect in every way. Personally I preferred the more intimate setting that was Laneway back in february, but really... the woman can do no wrong. (And it was, incidentally, the perfect way to spend a tuesday night.)

If you ever get the opportunity to catch either of their shows, I highly recommend it. I hope everyone else's lives have been treating them well :)

(Note: I wrote this on tuesday last week with the intention of posting it then but I had some problems with the photos and ohhhh just got caught up with life and uni and other nonsense. BIG apologies for being pretty absent from the blogging world over the past couple weeks. Some sort of consistency should resume soon and I can't wait to catch up on all of your blogs!)

I wore this to (FINALLY) see Inception yesterday. And... drumroll please for my super surprising and not at all expected reaction... I loved it! Fantastic. Totally mentally exhausting in the best possible way. I love leaving a movie and feeling just completely satisfied.

I bought this skirt at my friends' garage sale on sunday. It's kind of weird buying and then wearing around your friend's clothes. But who could resist a skirt like this? So bright and red and full of polyester goodness. I feel like I'm channelling my inner 60s flight attendant. With a hint of Claire from the Breakfast Club.

And, um... that may or may not be a tissue poking out of my boot. I have a cold, and it's being quite cruel to me.

Oh hey there, internet! No, I didn't forget about you, I swear! Was just sorta kinda a lot distracted by being back at uni this week. Yikes. There was a bit of a Kerfuffle (that's it's official name) early in the week and I ended up changing courses. Not a BIG change (corporate to independent production - so I'm still majoring in film and tv) but it was a difficult process and anyway, I'm so much happier now. Bit frustrated that it took me so long to realise I wasn't happy but I am now and that's all that matters!

But enough serious business! Back to your regular programmed frivolity and superficiality! Presented to you tonight in the form of this pretty vintage bag, from the darling Bonjour Vintage.

Perth happeningz

I'm going through a horribly awkward phase at the moment where I like adding 'z's to the end of wordz. But it's totally cool and ironic, right? Not lame at all? Totally. Anyway! There are a few cool vintagey/ fashiony/ generally awesome things happening in Perth soon so I thought I'd get them all into one nice list in one convenient location. (For those not Perth-based, um. BE JEALOUS.)

Home is Where My Heart Is, a "photography exhibition capturing the reality of youth homelessness", partnering "young emerging photographers with young homeless people, who are asked to take a photo that captures their interpretation of home".

This exhibition has been going for a few years now and although I haven't been before, it sounds quite fascinating and poignant. 834 Hay St (across the road from His Majesty's theatre), runs from 5 - 15 August, open 11 am - 5 pm every day, free entry.

Pigeonhole Vintage Shop Launch with 1950s afternoon tea. Pigeonhole is one step closer to total Perth domination with the addition of their latest shop, this one focused specifically on vintage. Um, HOORAY!

I'm DEVASTATED because I've been asked to work that afternoon so there's a very high chance I won't be able to make it. DEVASTATED. But anyway, it's on this coming saturday 7 August from 1 - 5 pm in Bon Marche arcade at 80 Barrack St.

BIG friendly garage sale! Some friends of mine, who are legitimately some of the coolest people I know, are putting on a sale in their (rather large) backyard to sell some of their (extremely large) collection of vintage clothes and what not. There are going to be some real gems there, and I'm not just saying that, promise.

It's this sunday 8 August at 5 Bruce St, Leederville from 10 am - 5:30 pm. And I'll be there! Yeah!

To The Core exhibition. This blog could easily turn into a Lisa's Friends Are Amazing Come See Their Stuff blog. Yup. A very good friend of mine, who is incidentally one of the most talented people I know (no exaggeration), is about to open her very first solo exhibition. She also happens to be kind, humble and totally down to earth, it's a little ridiculous really. I don't think anyone deserves this more than her. (I'll stop with the gushing now, I promise!)

The exhibition runs from 13 - 27 august at Linton and Kay art gallery, 123 Hay St, Subiaco. Open 10 am - 5 pm daily.

The White Elephant Secondhand Clothing Sale, a delightful-sounding vintage sale at Subiaco community centre, 203 Bagot Rd, on the 15 August from 1 - 5 pm.

Shops!

- Shag (top photo). Chapel St. There were a few vintage spots along Chapel St but this one stays in my mind because when I walked in the sakata song was playing. Too good.

- Olga de Polga (bottom photos). Chapel St. Totally adorable London-based designer with the odd bits of vintage. Plays 50s and 60s music. Is perfect. (Just look at all those trinkets in the window - irresistable, right?)

- Handworks. Chapel St. Basically one big stationery HEAVEN. I walked in and was like 'oh dear god...'

- Little Salon. Little Collins St. A gorgeous little boutique right in the city. Stocks a lot of Love... with a lot of love. (I'm lame, I know.)

Cafes/ restaurants!

- Orange (above photos). Chapel St. Just a lovely, warm, friendly cafe. Where they do those cool swirly things on your coffee.

- Il Gusto. Lygon St. A typical family-run Italian place, where the customers are loud and the owners are louder. I had this zesty chicken salad with some lambrusco, it was so good.

- Caffe e Torta. Little Collins St. A seriously way cool little cafe. Really friendly, and really good coffee.

I stumbled across this one laneway that was completely covered in graffiti; it seemed to be this giant collaborative street art project. And it was awesome.

The Tim Burton exhibition at ACMI is undoubtedly the coolest thing happening in Melbourne right now. It was fantastic. Burton is inspiring, I really admire him as an artist. I may or may not have walked around the dark gallery, particularly the black-light bit complete with Danny Elfman Nightmare Before Christmas music, pretending I was some quirky outsider-type first stepping into a weird and wonderful world of weirdness and wonder. Or something.

I couldn't resist adding a few football photos (and I really do mean 'a few'... I took roughly five million.) So here's the Thing You Might Not Know About Me of the day: I love football. Love it. Geelong (the ones hugging, above) is my team of choice and they are wonderful. And there's nothing like seeing a live game, particularly in the football hub that is Melbourne. The energy, the atmosphere - it's almost electric.

So I'm obviously biased, but I loved the town of Geelong as well. It was supposedly modelled off English seaside towns such as Brighton, and you can tell. Big white pier, jetties, carousel, old-fashioned baths, tree-lined main street. It was lovely.

The same goes for St Kilda. Another picturesque south-of-England type seaside spot. Complete with beautiful old theatre and olde timey Luna Park. Ah Luna Park! So fantastic. Wooden rollercoaster, those wacky mirrors, perfectly sculpted carousel. Delightful!

YUP, big post. But that was pretty much my weekend in a nutshell. It was tremendous, basically.

Standing on the shore

Honey, I'm home! Melbourne was good. So good. Delightful, really. I honestly didn't want to leave. A little more about it can be found here and I'll have some photos to share very soon. And by 'some' I mean 'millions' because sorting through them all is difficult. (My parents didn't seem to share my excitement in narrowing them down to 300. Weird.)

Just some details of my outfit today because Perth so kindly welcomed me back with a big ol' cold and I don't reeeeeally feel having a record of my cold-y-ness. But don't worry, this was by far the cutest part of what I was wearing. Seriously, how cute is that badge? And the peter pan collar? Two new favourite things right there. (The shirt is from American Apparel and the badge is from a little Melbourne shop called Little Salon - I definitely recommend checking it out.)

I no joke thought to myself, 'after nineteen and a half years of living I finally have packing down' and then ten minutes later realised, 'oh. Right. Shoes.' I'll get there eventually! Possibly.

Do I even need to tell you how happy it makes me to come home and find a package waiting? Do I, really? No, of course not. But I will anyway. IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY. I can't help it. Pretty dress = Lisa's Number One Weakness.

This just might be the prettiest of them all. It's from Rock Paper Vintage and I think it's my favourite ebay purchase yet. Beautiful colour, perfect fit, pearly buttons, ruffles, puffy sleeves - it's got it all. Big time in like with this dress.

THE HAIL LOOKS LIKE SNOW. You have no idea how much this excites me.

I love this kind of weather. All day it rained and there was thunder and lightning and wind and hail and it was magnificent. I spent the morning in the city wandering around and drinking coffee and the afternoon relaxing with a mug of milo and my camera. Beautiful day.

Almost immediately after I took yesterday's photos this dress arrived happily in the mail. I'm getting quite the cute little dress collection, it's fantastic. I couldn't resist this one because it looks like the kind of thing I wore when I was six and we all know I'm basically a six year old stuck in a nineteen year old's body. It's another treasure from Twitch Vintage and it's just SO much fun. I was actually intending to shorten the sleeves until I saw these photos where they just look all long and puffy and cute and now I'm not so sure. What do you think?

I have a new dress! HOORAY for end of financial year sales, for reals. It's cute and a bit sailor-y and has buttons and pockets and therefore is perfect. Fact.

Also I LOVE that it's cold enough now for me to wear my big black trench coat. It adds an instant degree of classiness and elegance to everything. I'm going to Melbourne in a few weeks and I have a feeling I'll be wearing it nonstop while I'm there.

And now for something slightly different... the lovely Sarah of LuShae Jewellery recently contacting me about reviewing a product and who am I to say no? This is not something I'm used to and made me feel quite special, so points scored before I even visited the shop :)

Tough choice but I went with these vintagey-type earrings, which is something I've been on the lookout for recently. Hello perfect timing!

So...

Quality: good. Very good. Maximum shininess and sparklarity. (Too technical? Sorry.) Ten out of ten for prettiness. And they're pretty damn photogenic, am I right?

Packaging/ shipping: they were shipped almost immediately and didn't take too long to arrive. The packaging though was very basic, at the very least a business card or something similar included would have been great. And maybe some ribbon or pretty paper - presentation goes a long way.

Website: easy to navigate. Plus there are guides to the history of jewellery, gemstones, metals and how to store and clean jewellery. Which, I'm going to be honest, would all be new information to me.

Overall... I've fallen a little in love with these earrings. If you're after something a bit fancy and don't want to spend a bucketload, give LuShae a look. Yay!

IT IS COLD. Has winter always been this cold? I could've sworn it was different last year...

But anyway... this is a pretty typical outfit for me at the moment. Jeans, flats, plain top and some sort of blazer-type thing. Casual wintery perfection.

I wore this to (FINALLY) see New York, I love you, which I enjoyed, but it left me feeling somewhat... empty. I had fairly high expectations (anyone who knows me in real life knows that I have a BIG crush on New York) and it didn't really live up to them. There was just something a little cold and disengaging about it. It didn't leave me with the warm gooey oh-my-god-take-me-to-New-York-NOW feelings I was expecting. But I did still enjoy it. What did everyone else think?

Lost coastlines

Guess who's back friends! Correctomundo! I had a downright lovely and amazing and rad time at Rottnest, it was exactly exactly what I needed. And having spent the last day or so recovering, I am once again all yours. Lucky you! Though I have to admit after bumming around for a week in jeans and plain-ish tops and cardigans and as many scarves/ beanies/ warm accessories as possible, it felt a little strange to be back amongst my wardrobe. So I sort of just threw on anything I could find. It worked?

It has been VERY VERY COLD these past couple days. Capitals VERY necessary. We antipodeans are into very super full-on winter now. And I love winter. The bits of winter when I am indoors and still have feeling in my extremities, that is. I can't wait to spend the next couple months being warm and cosy and tea-filled and bed-bunkered and scarf-enveloped. Mmmmmm.

White winter hymnal

Today was a good day! I spent the morning working and the afternoon shopping with my parents. So basically, as my brother so kindly pointed out, I spent the first half of the day making money and the second half spending it. Heh. Did I say I was trying to save money? Really? Oops. Ah well, clothing counts as an investment, right? They were totally all investment pieces.

I was going to dance around like a crazy person in my room taking photos of my fancy new things but then my camera battery died, so I just have this lot for now. But tomorrow! My camera will be alive and well! And I shall endeavour to take better photos. And maybe I'll ride my bike or walk to the park or something. Mmmm, yes, that sounds lovely.

The beanie I bought is AMAZING. It's so tacky and hobo-like and has a freaking pom-pom and I can't wait to wear it 24/7.

I was going to take photos of my outfit today (my ugly jumper + grey socks + high waisted shorts = it was cute, you'll just have to take my word for it) but my body kept begging me to take a nice hot shower and hop into my pyjamas so I did that instead. The next two and a half weeks are going to be Stress. Ful. End of semester, mountains of assignments are falling from the sky, you know the drill. But at least I can spend it wearing pretty clothes! Groovin' the Moo

My weekend was spent in a little (and yet surprisingly easy to get lost in) town called Bunbury at a music festival called Groovin' the Moo. Weird name? Hell yes. Weird festival? Hell to the no. It was nothing short of fantastic. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with festivals but in the end it's always the great company, awesome music, crazy camping adventures and even crazier dancing that stays with me. No difference here :)

Basically it involves creating something, sending it on to someone and then receiving a whole bunch of somethings yourself. You can draw, paint, take photos, write a song, sew, bead, thread, knit, create a comic, make a lil movie or choreograph an interpretive dance. Too easy, right?

Featuring: a breakfast of ANZAC biscuits (I wasn't patient enough to take a photo before eating), heading to an antique sale at the Claremont showgrounds, wearing my poncho and awkwardly taking photos of myself (haha), buying a cuuuute little nautical-type bracelet and cherry-cola lollies. Perth vintagey FUN!

I picked up this sweet sweet dress at a vintage sale in North Perth last Saturday! Yay!

And now I'm PUMPED because there's a lot of vintage goodness to look forward to in the next couple months...

Running this Saturday to Monday is the Claremont Antique and Collectors Fair at Claremont showgrounds. I've been to this one a couple times before and it's always top fun, there's a massive range - everything from your standard vintage clothes and accessories to really serious (and kind of weird) collector stuff (samurai swords or nazi propaganda anyone?) Stuff I've bought there in the past: a silk scarf, cameo brooches and old school Archie comics (damn straight).
Also on Saturday is the first of the monthly We Heart Vintage Market at the Flying Scotsman in Mt Lawley. A monthly vintage market? Yes please!
Pigeonhole's AW Fashion Launch is on the 30th of April at their Bon Marche arcade store - I VERY sadly can't make it to this one so please make me jealous and go! (And maybe buy me something pretty...?)
Vintage Vixens and Vamps is on the 23rd of May at Fremantle town hall and really, sounds nothing short of awesome.

Hooray! And can I just say... I LOVE how it's basically a necessity to have at least one cupcake stall at any vintage-type event these days. I fully support this trend.

I've been a bit blog-absent as of late (sad face) so here's an EXTRA big photos-of-me-filled post for you! Hurrah!

So I've been fairly sick over the past week and while my cold's kinda sorta gone, unfortunately my voice is too. (Let's just say I've really been able to perfect my Batman impression.) Dance alone

Ugh, the past three days have just been one big giant ball of Yuck. I have a cold, in other less nonsensical words. But I'm tired of it bringing me down so here's my List Of Good Things About Being Sick:

Being able to relax in bed all day
Lots of sympathy
Not being able to concentrate on, and therefore not having to do, uni work
Getting reacquainted with my giant teddy bear, and dressing him in dapper accessories
LOTS of tea

So that's all I can think of for now but clearly every gross tissue has a silver lining. Or something.

This is pretty much my 'sick uniform': old jeans, comfy top, big jumper (not seen) and, of course, teddy bear. Who says feeling poorly has to get in the way of sartorial goodiness?

I can't believe I actually took photos of myself. THE THINGS I DO FOR THE INTERNET, HEY?? 'Cos you're all so desperate to see pictures of me sick and all. I think I mostly just wanted to show off my teddy bear. So hey, here's a couple more photos of that... (you're welcome.)

I've had the busiest weekend in forever (work/ studying/ drunken shenanigans with friends/ football/ dance competition - where did this whole me having a life thing come from??) plus non-stop uni today (where I got to play director in my TV studio class! Sitting in the control room! Telling people what to do! Pressing lots of buttons!) equals me very happy to be sitting back, listening to Laura Marling and looking at pretty pictures. I was in the backyard the other night playing around with flash and couldn't help jumping in front of the camera for a few shots... (I'm new at this whole nighttime-flash thing so, yeah... not the best photos... but there's nothin' like experimentin'!)

Easter break! Two weeks off uni, even though we've only had four weeks of semester so far - weird, I know. But hey, yesterday I slept in til 10:30 am and it was GLORIOUS so no complaints here. A breakfast of hot cross buns didn't hurt too badly either - how do I manage to survive eating them only once a year? Seriously. How. (I think I need to steal some from work to get me through the cold easterless months ahead - yikes.)

Anyway, this jumper - I bought it a few years ago when I was still at school basically because I thought it was so ugly, and therefore hilarious. Um, probably not the best way to go about shopping. I hated it for ages and have only recently started to revere it's awesome ugliness. (Thinking about that today made me realise just how much my taste/ style has changed in the last couple years, and I love how I now have this 'lil blog to document that change. I find it really interesting, because I think it's actually only partially my style that's changing, and more just me discovering what 'me' clothes are. Does that make sense? It's late.)

Also my bit of experimentation for today - socks and jelly sandals. This outfit really is all about the ugly, hehe.

Yes, I finally got round to seeing Alice in Wonderland today! It wasn't as fantastic as I was hoping, and definitely not Tim Burton's best, but it was still pretty excellent and I liked it a lot. (And I LOVED the wardrobe.)

I've been feeling a bit sartorially uninspired this week, boo. My solution for it tonight is to wear the dress I bought for my 16th birthday party. Which led to me going through all the photos from that night and getting slightly teary. And saying 'awwww' a lot.

(Sorry for the shit quality; I tried to make it prettier by whizzing it through poladroid. I mean - dude, the quality, like, totally conveys the atmosphere. Yeah.)

I have no idea where the dress is from, all it has is a swirly love heart on the tag.

Chocolate raspberry lemon and lime

Saturday night and I'm being a nerd, spending it at home doing work. But the work is editing photos for photography, if that makes it any cooler? Just a tiny, little bit cooler..?

The only thing that would've made this outfit more thrown-together would be if I'd literally thrown it on. But alas, I just grabbed random items of clothing and put them on in the regular fashion. Nothing exciting there. Really the only reason the outfit's making it here (and what a selection process it is!) is that I love the photos I took of it. I'm seriously considering taking all of my photos in the evening from now on just because the light's so pretty.

(Also - taking photos of myself in the front yard was weird! I was getting really paranoid that people would be watching me. And thinking that I'm weird. How do y'all take your photos? In private? By someone else? In the middle of the street for all to see? I'm really curious!)
